Since I was very young, about 5 or 6 years old,
I have been deeply interested in music. I could sit down for hours just to
listen to Los Jaivas, a Chilean band that I loved. I´ve learnt to play electric
guitar at the age of eleven, then bass and now piano, but I have always wanted
to learn to play drums, I’ve been fascinated by drums since the first time I listened
to Los Jaivas, but I have not had the opportunity to learn because of different
reasons, first of all, they are way too expensive. Keeping the drum kit under
good care is expensive, replacing parts and stuff like that, plus, every time
you need another tom or plate it costs a fortune. The other reason is the
noise, my neighbors already hate me for playing guitar too loud, so if I had a drum
kit I would be kicked out of where I live hahaha. The difficult part of playing
drums is that you have to develop the ability to split your brain into many
fragments and each of those fragments has to think for its own, because you
need to lead a different rhythm with each one of your limbs. Keeping up with
the tempo is the fundamental thing to do when you play drums, that’s a bit
difficult for me since I never practice with a metronome when I play guitar, my
bad there haha. A drummer is like the heartbeat of any music band, so it´s not
an easy task to play drums, it requires lots and lots of practice and patience.
My drumming influences are quite diverse since I listen to a lot of different
music genres, from prog rock and jazz fusion to extreme forms of metal. I couldn’t
say who is my favorite drummer but here are some of the ones I like the most.
